Established in 1922, the Union now makes its mission to favour the development of the rail transport at the global level, promote mobility and sustainable development. In 2004 JSC NIIAS joined UIC as an affiliated member.

JSC NIIAS experts and their colleagues from Telespazio are developing technologies for satellite monitoring of potentially dangerous sections of railway lines. The technology will be tested on the Tuapse – Adler section near Sochi. The technology for broadband Internet access onboard trains is being researched as well.
